Staying hydrated during the summer turns out to be a difficult task. We get so busy and excited for the activities ahead that we sometimes forget to grab a glass of water. To some people is even harder to consume water because they dislike the taste of it. Perhaps I should say that they dislike the fact it has no taste 🙂 Plenty of times, the solution is a fruit based drink, smoothie / shake, or a soda. Freshly squeezed juices are really good for you because of the amount of nutrients and vitamins contained in them. But remind yourself that there is no substitute for water.
The human body is composed of 70% water, depending on the body type. During the day, it expels part of its water percentage through bodily fluids in order to restore the system. Some of the functions body does is to remove toxins, regulate temperate, maintain skin healthier, etc. The human should have its water content replaced to avoid dehydration. This is why water is so important.
Lets explore the scenario of disliking the taste of water. So what are your options? You can always get one of those Dasani water drops. The water can be infused with plenty of fruits / vegetables / fresh herbs. Find a balance between the ingredients, if you are going to add more than one. Some herbs don’t go well with some ingredients and ends up ruining a whole pitcher. Remove the peels of the fruits, if not organic and if citrus. Here is a small list of ingredients to make your water unforgettably delicious.
Citrus (lemon, lime, orange), berries (strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, blackberry), melons (watermelon, honeydew), mango, pineapple.

- Wash the vegetables, fruits and / or herbs well and peel them if necessary. Cut the fruits and vegetables as per taste and add them to the pitcher. Mash them slightly to release flavor.
- The next step is to add some water (tap, filtered or sparkling) and the herbs. Allow the water to infuse for 1 hour.
- Refrigerate the water for another 2 hours to allow the fruits to better infuse into the water.
- Last and more important step, Drink it up!
What is the ideal temperature for the water?
Unlike tea, the temperature of the water should be room temperature or colder. This temperature will allow your water to be infused naturally without losing the texture of the fruits / vegetables and their nutrients.
How long should infuse the water for?
There is a soaking time for the ingredients added and the temperature as well. You want to avoid exposing the water with fruits too long to room temperature. The reason behind that is some citrus, for example, start getting bitter and others will be completely saturated with water. Try to soak the fruits / herbs / vegetables for 1 – 2 hours and refrigerate it afterwards for 3 – 4 hours.
How long does the infused water last?
The first thing to practice is refrigeration. If your water is properly refrigerated, try there will be little opportunity for the water to spoil or to create bacteria. With that in mind, the fruit-infused water should be good for a maximum of 3 days. Don’t worry about this though, if you are like me it will not last a day 🙂
